9th Grade Literature and Composition
This course focuses on a study of literary genres. Students develop an initial understanding of both the structure and the meaning of literary works. Students explore the effect of the literary form in regards to interpretation. Reading across the curriculum, students develop academic and personal interests in different subjects. While the focus is technical writing in 9th grade literature, students will also demonstrate competency in a variety of other writing genres including narrative, expository, and persuasive. Students will engage in research, timed writings, and the writing process. Instruction in language conventions will occur within the reading, writing, and speaking process, rather than in isolation. Students will receive instruction in language conventions (grammar, punctuation, etc.) within the context of reading, writing, and speaking, rather than in isolation. Finally, they will demonstrate an understanding of listening, speaking, and viewing for a variety of purposes. This course reflects the Georgia Performance Standards.
